Clear water, Natural light

It's been simply another fantastic week diving here in Sosua on the North coast of the Dominican Republic.

Summer is coming, the days are getting warmer, the ocean is getting warmer and the visibility is better every day.  Calm waters and short boat rides are the order of the day.

It's a great time to be taking photos using the natural light available!  The lack of waves lets the light penetrate and creates superb wider angle opportunities.  Have a look at the slide show - and please leave your comments!

The second version of the book is available here on the website and it looks great!  More dive sites and more information on Sosua.  The paper has been upgraded and the photos "pop".

Come on down to Sosua and enjoy the beautiful beaches, the great variety of restaurants, and the friendly hospitality of the Dominican people.

Have a GREAT week everyone :)

LobsterĀ

The Caribbean Spiny Lobster lives in depths between 3 and 130 feet herein the warm waters off Sousa in the Dominican Republic.  They hide in protective recesses during the day but openly forage at night.  During reproduction the females hold the clusters of eggs under their abdomen.

From March 1st to June 30th Lobster Season in the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic, is closed.

Due to overfishing and a major decrease in numbers, this ban was put in place in 2010 to help preserve and grow the population during the species breeding season.  It is important to note that this ban applies to fishing as well as capture, processing, meat, or mass possession and marketing. That essentially means that you should not be able to find lobster for sale or available to eat anywhere…including market, supermarkets, and restaurants.

Anyone found in violation of the ban can be fined up to US $50,000 and spend up to 10 years in prison.

Please, to protect our oceans for future generations, do not purchase lobster from restaurants, seafood markets or beach vendors during this period.

Semana Santa

4/6/2015

Here on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic in Sosua, all water activities are shut down for Easter Weekend, Semana Santa.

The weekend is an incredible celebration and a "must experience" for both residents and visitors alike.

The police, the military and volunteer groups patrol the beach to help keep everyone safe and ensure that the consequences of the partying are kept under control.

This past weekend was amazing - sun, surf, sand, music, and families enjoying all of it!

Be sure and check out the video link here to get a taste of Semana Santa 2015 here in beautiful Sosua.!

And now - back into the water and diving this week!
